Nancy was a gem, offering great service and sharing interesting local history, and the breakfast was creative and tasty. My husband and I just spent a night at the Wakefield Mill, with a beautiful room overlooking the falls. We also had a delicious Table d’Hote meal at La Muse Restaurant. Dani’s service was excellent, and the innovative three course dinner was one of the best meals we’ve had in a while, even after travelling in Europe. Service throughout was outstanding. We’ll definitely be back!

The worst part of our romantic city break was a distressing spa treatment. Before it started, I clearly stated a physical boundary. The massage therapist acknowledged it, then disregarded it during the session. The one area I’d asked them to focus on, my shoulders, was mostly ignored. I was left shaken and in tears, cancelled the rest of our treatments, and we left shortly afterward. The manager refunded the massage and mentioned bringing in outside training about boundaries, but that doesn’t undo the impact. Respect for consent is fundamental in bodywork, and this was not a minor oversight. I would have appreciated a more meaningful effort to repair things, such as an invitation to return under safer, more attentive conditions. Instead, the response felt focused on limiting liability rather than rebuilding trust. Guests shouldn’t have to wonder whether clearly stated boundaries will be respected in such a vulnerable setting. The hotel itself has historic charm, but even in an upgraded King room, some details fell short of what I’d expect at this price: threadbare towels, mismatched robes, no slippers, and a TV that wouldn’t connect to streaming services.

The staff, including Dani and Nancy, were engaging and worked as a team. It’s rare for every part of a trip to be this good, and the people here are among the nicest I’ve met at a tourism destination. Whoever hires them and sets the culture, please keep it up. The food was exceptional, creative, fun, tasty, and beautifully presented. My wife and I have travelled extensively, and top notch hospitality doesn’t have to be in London, Paris, or Rome. It can happen anywhere when people bring passion and determination to creating something wonderful. The mill really understands that. We’d always wanted to stay at the mill, and a Christmas spa package at Le Nordik gave us the chance. The website details and pictures looked enticing, and the actual experience exceeded our expectations. What a wonderful hotel gem in Gatineau park. We’ll be back.

The food was the standout for me, fresh, delicious, and full of flavour. I’m not much of a seafood fan, but I trusted the chef enough to try stringray, and loved it. Kudos to the chef and her team. After dinner, we enjoyed pool, board games, and live music at the Heron Wine Bar. The waterfall views from the restaurant and spa were spectacular. This charming boutique inn felt both cozy and luxurious, and the helpful staff made sure we had what we needed. I’d strongly recommend a trip to Wakefield!

We loved the hot tub beside the falls, then the nearby sauna, while two others sat by an outdoor fire next to the creek. It’s a beautiful getaway in a raw natural setting, with rolling falls and mature trees close by. The rooms are clean, quaint, well stocked, and fit the old mill style. Staff were polite, professional, and very helpful. The food was top notch, thoughtfully prepared and beautifully plated, with professional flavours like Michelin level cooking. I was also surprised that the portions easily satisfied a pretty hefty appetite. Well done. 👏🥂 Try a visit! 👍
