Lakelawn B&B Motel

I nearly chose a chain hotel after reading the negative reviews, and I'm glad we gave this beautiful old B&B a chance. It's a real gem, clean, cute, and quirky, with very friendly, helpful staff. The continental breakfast is free, and the muffins and other choices were great. Historic buildings are so much more interesting and delightful, and this one lives up to that. The people running it have done a wonderful job keeping it going when staff are hard to find and repairs cost so much.

We had a great two-day stay. The rooms were very clean, the staff were helpful, and the beds were super comfortable.

We arrived at 5:45 pm and couldn't check in because a note on the door said staff would be back later. Weeks before, I'd called to request rooms beside each other, but they weren't together. The night clerk said there was no request or note on file. The rooms were cold, and when we were told the heat was off, there were no blankets available. The evening front desk service was incredibly rude and incompetent. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no. I also asked the owner to call, but nobody ever did. With a 'for sale' sign on the lawn, I can only assume they've lost interest in serving customers. Worst hotel experience we've had.

The room had such an overwhelming musty smell that we only stayed one night, and I wouldn't come back because of it. It's an older place and needs a major upgrade. The staff were very nice, and the location was quiet, which helped since there was no AC and we had to sleep with the windows wide open.
