Discovery Inn

The room didn’t feel clean, and it smelled of smoke, as did the whole third floor. There’s no elevator, and the stairs are narrow, so carrying our luggage upstairs was difficult. They provided only a thin sheet and a top cover that no hotel would ever wash. I had to sleep wearing a mask.

The hotel was really dirty when I checked in, and I found a bed bug in the bed. I turned around and left, but the manager refused to refund me. I wouldn’t book again. The service only gets two stars because the man at the front counter was nice enough.

My flight was canceled, and with so few options I needed a room for the night. I was glad not to be stranded in a town with so few hotels. The place is old and kind of dingy, but the sheets, room, bathroom, and towels were clean and warm. The man at the desk was super helpful and friendly, and it was quiet after 10 pm on Tuesday, so I slept decently. There’s a grocery store a very short walk away. I picked up a really good hot chicken dinner and ate like a king in my comfortable room. Despite the shortcomings, I felt fortunate and thankful to have a place to stay. As the old saying goes, any port in a storm.

The location is good, and the old hotel could be much better with some updates. But the room was tiny and the bedsheets had stains, while the strong cigarette smell was everywhere, especially in the stairwell and hallway. We stayed one night, then had to move because we couldn’t stand the horrible smells.
