Casa Berno Swiss Quality Hotel

The lake views are breathtaking, the location is close to hiking paths, and there’s a nice little sauna and outdoor pool. But our room, which was supposed to be on the higher end, was very old, with a smelly carpet and noisy air conditioning. The toilet smell was intense. Opening the balcony door to air it out wasn’t possible because of the heavy noise. We raised the problem with reception but got little help. The alternative they offered was another room we didn’t need, for an extra CHF 50. Reception staff seemed poorly trained and more confrontational than helpful, and the location can be difficult for anyone with limited mobility. The hotel is totally overpriced for what it offers. There are much better options around Ascona and Locarno. It was our second stay here, and the last.

We celebrated our engagement at Casa Berno in July 2024, and couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The included daily breakfast was excellent, especially with an espresso overlooking the lake. Everything surpassed what we expected, from the rooms and amenities to the service at reception and in the restaurant. The pool deck and panoramic views were breathtaking too. Highly recommend staying at Casa Berno!

The attentive staff, delicious breakfast buffet, and evening menu made this stay memorable, especially the autumn special dish. It’s an elegant 4 ☆ hotel high above Lake Maggiore, with a wonderful panoramic view.

The lake view is gorgeous, and the restaurant has a beautiful outlook while you eat, though the food is mediocre and portions somewhat small. It’s pricey for what you get unless you’d rather not drive down to town. The hotel is a bit away from town, and while there’s a decent amount of parking out front, some covered and some not, getting in and out means taking long, one-lane roads. I wouldn’t recommend driving here if you’re not a good driver. The rooms are relatively clean and well cared for, even if the style feels old-fashioned.
