Hotel Century

The room was clean, and the location was good. Beyond that, everything felt very old, like staying in a hotel from 1940, and most things were broken. The staff weren’t helpful. The city tax was already included in the hotel fee, so they should provide a free transport ticket, but they didn’t mention or hand it over until we asked after two days. They also don’t have toothbrushes 😂

The rooms are larger than in most Geneva hotels, and the staff are genuinely friendly and very helpful. It’s centrally located but quiet, even with one of the main tram lines 🚋 behind the building, which you can’t hear. The large, stylish lobby gives the hotel a great atmosphere.

The desk staff were friendly and the location was great, but the room felt straight out of the early seventies despite the four-star rating by the entrance. It was roasting at bedtime, and I found the thermostat set to 27°C. The temperature wouldn’t change, and the off switch had broken off. I wished I’d had my MacGyver Swiss army knife. Sweating and gasping, I staggered to open the window, which did help with the heat. Then I discovered the street was like Geneva’s version of the circus maximus, with scooters whose exhausts seemed to have holes drilled in them. A two-stroke engine screaming past at 40 km/h with no silencer is quite a lullaby. Wouldn’t recommend.

Everything felt worn out and extremely old, so the hotel’s four-star claim is a joke. The hair dryer and air conditioning were broken, and the heating couldn’t be turned off, leaving the room stifling hot. Outside traffic was so loud it felt like trying to sleep on a park bench. A dreadful stay. Avoid it at all costs!
