Alexander Guesthouse

Oscar at reception was welcoming and helpful, and even showed me where to park. The room was decent and the bed comfortable, although the walls are a bit thin. This small guest house sits around the corner from its larger sister, Hotel Alexander, right in central Zurich with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. A good budget option, and I'd happily recommend it.

We were especially pleased with how helpful and kind the staff were. You can borrow a wifi device during your stay if you leave a document with your face on it, and return it when you leave. The reception also sells tickets for the Kunsthouse (Art museum) free of charge, and there's complimentary coffee in the hotel lobby throughout the day. Our room at Alexander Guesthouse was spacious, comfortable, spotless, and looked onto an interior garden. The bed was comfortable, with two pillows for each guest, and bottled water was provided for everyone. Sound insulation is poor, but it didn't bother us much in the off season, when there were few guests and our room didn't face the street. I can see it being an issue for others, though earplugs are provided by the bed. Given the location, we thought the price was fair.

The ground floor is a popular fondue restaurant, and the room had a melted cheese smell. The restaurant itself is very good. The location is good too, but I wouldn't recommend the guesthouse: the room is small, as expected, yet its odd layout makes it feel awkward. It's quite dated and the supplies are very basic.

The reception team really made this place for me. They were great hosts and willing to meet my needs. The rooms are so small that you might barely fit unless you're travelling solo. Still, it's a decent place if staying connected to the city is what you want.
