Kronenhof

For travelers from India, be aware that three- and four-star hotels in Europe don’t provide the same kind of service you may be used to at home. There’s no bellhop, so you move your own luggage. The room is cleaned after a three-night stay. A service point is open around the clock but isn’t staffed; it has a microwave, iron, cutlery, extra towels and glasses.

The rooms are basic, but the location and price are hard to beat, and there’s decent parking. What really sets the Kronenhof apart is the staff. KJ and Babette were so accommodating with our five-month-old and such a pleasure to talk to. You can tell from how they treat other guests that this kind of care is the norm. They make everyone feel like a friend visiting. We’d highly recommend it for an overnight stay, especially with little kids. We’ll be back!

I stayed one night and then headed off, without trying the breakfast. It’s an older, basic hotel beside Coop and public transport. Everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were really friendly. The themed room wasn’t my style and had a slightly old smell, but the price was close to what I’d pay for a shared Airbnb in Zurich.

Good value for the price, and check-in went smoothly. The room was a decent size. There’s a really good Indian restaurant right next door, a Coop supermarket on one side, and the train station is within walking distance.
