The church itself is free to visit, but climbing the tower costs 5 CHF. From up there, Zurich is spread out below you, though ongoing work and scaffolding partly blocked the view. The whole building was covered in scaffolding from the outside, so I couldn't get a good look at it.

We went in April, but renovations had closed the church, so we couldn't see the interior. The surrounding area was still worth the visit, especially the lovely viewpoint over the river and old town. The historic buildings, water, and church make a beautiful scene for photos. Grossmünster is a major Zurich landmark, with its twin towers standing out in the skyline. Built in the 12th century in Romanesque style, it is closely tied to Switzerland's Protestant Reformation. Huldrych Zwingli began preaching here in the early 1500s. We missed seeing inside this time, but the church's beauty and history still came through. It's a must-see in Zurich.

The interior is quite plain and austere, in keeping with Protestant values, but the stained-glass windows by Augusto Giacometti fill the nave with beautiful colored light. The bronze doors, with their biblical and historical scenes, are striking too. The main draw for many visitors is the tower platform. It takes 187 narrow spiral steps to get there, and the climb is challenging, but the panoramic view is worth the effort. You can see the Limmat River, Old Town, Fraumünster Church, and, on a clear day, the distant Alps. Grossmünster's twin towers make it an unmistakable Zurich landmark. Beyond its architecture, it has major historical importance as the cradle of the Swiss-German Reformation led by Huldrych Zwingli in the 16th century. A great stop for history enthusiasts, and the view alone makes the visit worthwhile.

A sandstone landmark in Zürich, Switzerland, this church sits in an incredibly safe part of the city. Going upstairs is especially worth it. The climb takes about 10 to 15 minutes and costs a small fee, and the view over the city is stunning. We loved praying here and sitting to relax. It's peaceful, quiet, and full of tranquility. People are respectful of the history and culture.

In the heart of Zürich, this is a lovely church with beautifully painted glass windows. It feels serene, a nice place to sit and unwind. You can visit for free with a Zürich pass. My top recommendation is to climb the staircase to the top. The view is breathtaking, and it's not a very long climb. I'd definitely come back in another season to see that view again.
