La Colmena Eco Lodge

The location is great for getting to the national park, just a 10-minute drive from Ensenada. The house is gorgeous and secluded. Our room was comfortable and clean, with a big balcony. There are three lovely dogs and a really cute cat.

Dinner in the lodge’s atmospheric dining room was delicious, and the host was someone special. I’m glad my family got to sit and chat with her. One of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed.

We really enjoyed meeting the other travelers at the lodge. That’s one of the best parts of traveling. Victoria’s place was also such a restful spot, and the wider Ensenada area has lots of outdoor options. A friend recommended Victoria’s Colmena lodge, and we’re glad we took her advice. We happened to be there on Asado night, with Chef Fernando preparing the meal. We did our best to keep up with the amount of meat Argentines eat, but you’ll have to experience it yourself to understand 😉.

The cabana is in a gorgeous setting, though it’s quite a way from the road, 2,060 meters, or around 2.1 km, from the last intersection. If you’re not driving, keep that in mind. It’s about a 20-minute walk to Cruze Navarro, where you can catch a minibus. Vicky is so sweet and really takes an interest in her guests and their travels. She makes an effort to get people together, either by introducing guests or with her weekly (?) barbecues. I left at 4am on departure day, and she made me breakfast to take with me. Her three dogs and cat are adorable. The rooms are lovely and affordable. I’d heard people mention that the water can be either hot or cold, but I found that only a minor inconvenience. Breakfast is included, though some add-on items cost extra. Dinner and the barbecue are also paid, and you can buy hygiene products there if you need them.
