Hostal Piedrita de Rio

We liked being a 15-20 minute walk from the centre. The walk made the place feel especially calm and quiet, which suited us since we weren't after the buzz of town. The hosts were warm, helpful, and flexible when we had to change our departure dates a couple of times. The hostel was super clean, the beds really comfortable, and the WiFi worked great. I managed a two-hour work video call without any issues. Laundry is available for a small extra fee. Highly recommend.

The owners were really nice and the rooms very clean. The location was the main issue for us. It's outside the centre, and the tours don't pick you up there, so you have to walk 500 metres. The hostal is also at the base of an embankment on the east side, which blocks the view and seems a bit concerning if there's heavy rain.

Our host was kind and helpful, and we could leave our bags there after checkout, which came in handy. The place was lovely and very quiet. The location was the one downside: since it's a little outside the centre, tour operators wouldn't collect us there, so we had to walk to another hostel or into town. It was only about 15 minutes on foot, so not a huge problem, but worth keeping in mind.

We cooked in the well-equipped, handy kitchen every night, and breakfast was very good. Elvira and her daughters were friendly and attentive, noticing what we needed and taking care with the little things. The outdoor spaces were great, and the rooms were clean and well furnished. We stayed five nights and loved the calm. It's a 15-minute walk out of town, which we didn't mind at all, and tour companies had no problem picking us up at the hostal.
