Gold Keep Hostel

The location is good and there’s WiFi, but everything else was dire. The bed was only five feet long and barely fit one person. I ended up sleeping on the hard floor, with air conditioning that hardly worked and an even worse bathroom. There was no window, and the place was in an old, rough building. I woke up feeling like I was close to dying. Without doubt the worst gaff I’ve ever stayed in.

They provided an air cooler while we waited, but the air conditioning never got fixed until the last night before our flight out. I’d told reception it wasn’t working, and they said they’d have a technician check it.

I saw people smoking in areas where smoking is prohibited, which felt dangerous. This was the most horrible, shady accommodation, in a run-down building in Mongkok. Avoid it if you can and book somewhere safer.

The rooms are small, but they’re clean and comfortable. The building itself isn’t clean, though, and some residents aren’t friendly, so don’t expect too much from it.
