Osaka Hostel

I normally book hostels in room 16, where the service is exceptionally good and the rooms are quiet, clean, and in good condition. This time I went on a friend’s recommendation and was very disappointed by the cleanliness and the way the staff treated us. The sink wouldn’t drain, the hot water wasn’t hot, the toilet leaked, and there was a dead cockroach in it. I was told I could come in at 2pm, but I arrived late and checked in at 3pm. I’d booked for one night, with checkout at 11am the next day, and had told every employee I planned to leave at 9pm. A male employee agreed, as did a female employee from Indonesia, who said she had confirmed it with the hostel owner. Still, at 7:40pm, a female staff member from the Philippines knocked loudly and told me to leave. I explained the arrangement again, but she kept knocking. I was shocked by this, especially when she acted like the building’s owner. When I got upset and asked her to speak politely, since I’d paid and we’d agreed on the time, she told me she didn’t care and that I had to leave then. She had scolded my partner earlier too, perhaps thinking I wouldn’t speak up because I’d been quiet. I shouted back that she was being very rude. We reported her to her boss and other employees. After one of her friends came over, she asked us to go back into the room, but by then we didn’t want to stay there anymore. We understand that issues can happen, but not this kind of treatment. Please train your staff better. It was embarrassing.
