Super 7 Hostel

I visited in May 2024 on my first trip to HK, and I'd read about Chungking Mansions, so I knew roughly what to expect. The hostel and room were tiny, but reasonably priced, and close to transport, landmarks, and restaurants. The AC was cool, the TV worked perfectly, and there was hot water and a full set of toiletries. Staff, though, were rude and unhelpful. A heads-up: despite what they say, there isn't a smoking room available. If they catch you smoking in the room, they'll charge a 500 HK dollar fine. Also, they'll still do housekeeping even if you ask them not to.

Being close to TST is really convenient, but the old building has poor soundproofing and the room is cramped. I couldn't even open my luggage without putting it on the bed.

I couldn't wait to leave. The atmosphere was bleak, and the unreliable Wi-Fi made it impossible to work or even do simple things online. The amenities were poor too. My room needed serious maintenance, with old furnishings, stained carpets, and a musty smell that never went away. From the moment I arrived, the staff seemed unenthusiastic and unprofessional, which made me uncomfortable. This was the worst hotel stay of my life, and I strongly advise people to avoid it.

I stayed two nights, and it was awful. They advertise 24-hour check-in, but I waited outside for two hours before reception opened the door. The receptionist then asked me for a $46 service charge. I paid $50 and got no change. Inside the room, there was urine all over the toilet. When I complained, the receptionist looked furious. This has been my worst experience so far. Stay away, the service was bad and it felt like a scam.
