Finca El Ocaso Salento

Even though I already knew a bit about how coffee is grown, I learned plenty on this tour. Andres was professional and really knew his stuff. Great experience, and worth the price.

The smaller group made the Toasting Tour feel personal. Jonatan was a great guide, knew the subject well, and answered all our questions. We picked beans, learned about production, toasted them, made a cup to taste, and looked at its flavor profile. The coffee shop had a lovely view, service was great, and the whole tour was engaging and really cool. Phenomenal experience, highly recommend!

Coffee isn't really my thing, but I still found this farm tour well worth doing. Our guide was funny and friendly, answered everything clearly, and kept things relaxed. We got to pick cherries ourselves. It wasn't peak season, so most were green, but spotting a ripe red one here and there was fun. They walk you through the whole process, from planting and drying to grinding and roasting. Seeing the beans spread out to dry in the sun was especially interesting. We tasted the coffee at the end. I can't say much about it as a non-coffee person, but it was nice to try. I can't compare this finca with others, though it felt calm and authentic. Bring something to protect against mosquitoes. Mine got my hands and neck badly, even with long sleeves and pants, especially while we were picking. A relaxed, enjoyable visit I'd recommend to anyone in the area.

We picked Ocaso after doing a little research, since it came up as a recommendation among the many fincas around. The regular 1.5-hour tour was very organized, and our English-speaking guide was professional. We saw each step of preparing the coffee beans and got to pick some ourselves. I'd recommend Ocaso, though it could also be worth checking out smaller family farms.
