Cocoplum Beach Hotel

The staff were the best part of our five days at Cocoplum on a full-board package. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and Oscar, our restaurant waiter, had such a warm personality that we felt well looked after. We also loved that the hotel cares for local homeless dogs. They’re friendly, playful, and protective, and could easily be the hotel’s mascots. Our suite was spacious and comfortable. The air conditioning sits right above the bed and was too cold to leave on overnight, but the ceiling fan worked well enough. Mosquitoes are another thing to prepare for. They’re hard to see but left us covered in bites, so bring repellent or wear long trousers. The meals were less satisfying. Online, “full board” sounded like it included the full menu, but we could only choose from 5-7 dishes out of around 30. Having the same limited choices for five days got repetitive. They served chicken soup on a 30°C day, which seemed an odd choice, and even a simple request to swap chips for salad could be a problem. The hotel could offer more choices to full-board guests or make clear online which dishes are included. More variety in the menu and sides would help too. Even with the food issues, the staff’s kindness and the hotel’s care for animals made our stay enjoyable. Clearer dining information and a few changes could make it even better.

We spent five days there, and everything around the area, including the restaurants, was dead at night. That left us eating only at the hotel, and the food was awful. We even found a nail in our food, for which we’d paid 80.000$ per plate. I really can’t recommend eating there.

We ate at the beach restaurant. The food and service were good, though it was pricey. Being right on a lovely beach comes at a cost, I guess.

The team tried to help, but there were so many problems that fixing them would have taken up my whole holiday. I had no hot water, despite specifically asking about it before check-in. The air conditioning didn’t work, and eventually there was no water at all.
