Cataratas Bijagua Lodge

A peaceful cabin tucked into the Costa Rican rainforest, with a veranda looking straight out at trees. It was clean, roomy, and nicely equipped, a welcome break from everyday noise. Breakfast was tasty and the host was lovely, though they don't speak English.

Breakfast at the Lodge each morning was great, and we had dinner there once too. Our cottage was lovely and the WiFi worked really well. We spent three nights and enjoyed the whole stay. Definitely recommend it.

We came for the trail to Bijagua Cataratas and didn't stay overnight, though the place looked nice and the staff were helpful. The falls at the end were the best part, and there are lovely stretches of stream where you can swim. Take care on the trail, especially when it's quiet: we nearly stepped on a Fer De Lance, one of Costa Rica's deadliest snakes. Bullet ants and leaf cutter ants are all over the trail and nearby area too.

The lodge runs on power from a water generator behind the pool, which was a cool detail. It also sits at a handy distance from everything: a restaurant and 24 hour ATM are five minutes away, a town with a chain grocery store is 15 minutes away, and the Tenerio tourist areas are farther on. We loved the meals, and dinner is reasonably priced, just let them know by 5pm if you want it. The public areas are beautiful, with lots of outdoor places to sit, and our room was clean and nice. The waterfall hike was probably the best in the area. My girlfriend and I didn't meet another person on it. The shorter walk to the overlook is nice too. One of the best places I've stayed, if not the best.
