Hotel Ostende

The staff are why I’m giving Hotel Ostenda five stars. They were all helpful, responsive, patient, and accommodating even though I don’t speak Russian. We especially enjoyed working with Monika and Valeriy, both great practitioners and very hospitable. Monika taught me about the virtues of Becherovka, and Valeiry even joined us for an outing and introduced us to Loket Castle. My wife and I brought our Russian mother to Karlovy Vary in 2019. It’s rare for an American to experience a traditional Russian sanitorium without speaking Russian or traveling with someone who does. Hotel Ostenda occupies one of the most historic buildings I’ve stayed in, built in the 1750s, two doors down from Hotel Pupp, where The Last Holiday was filmed. Our rooms were a bit dated, but very clean and comfortable. The home-cooked Russian-style food was high quality and delicious. I’d hoped to lose a few pounds, but went the other way!
