Boutique Hotel Villa Katharina

The cooked breakfast was a highlight. The owner, who was also the chef, made us delicious fried eggs with vegetables. It was included in the price, and there was a typical German spread of sausages, fish, cheese, yoghurt, jam, muesli, fried or boiled eggs, and freshly baked rolls. Breakfast was a separate highlight for us, a lovely way to start the day. The kitchen is really small, though. If you don’t arrive at 8 o’clock, there may be no seats; our friends waited 20 minutes for a table. We were happy to visit Bamberg, the beer capital of Germany, last weekend, and chose Boutique Villa after looking at hotels and Airbnb. We couldn’t arrive early enough to check in, so our keys were left in a safe box and the codes came by email. We booked the “Domberg” room, about 15-20 m2, which felt big enough. It had a French double bed, TV, Wi-Fi, shelf, and a couch, and the bathroom had what we needed. The one thing missing was a bathtub curtain, so everything nearby got wet while bathing. This small hotel is in a quiet area close to the Bamberg Dom, at most 15 minutes away on foot. In summer, until the end of October, guests can relax outside in the garden swimming pool, but it was unfortunately closed during our visit. Hot drinks are available in the kitchen during the day, and cold drinks by the entrance. There are old restaurants and brewery bars with nice food nearby. The hotel has a small parking area for perhaps 5-6 cars, with a lift from the parking area for taking luggage upstairs. Special thanks to Mr.Hartmann for making our stay comfortable. He was very friendly and polite, as were his female assistants. I’m not sure why I gave only 4 stars, but although we left a “please clean our room” sign on the door, it wasn’t cleaned. After a long day, we returned to a messy room without fresh towels, even though we’d left ours on the floor.

The owners were friendly and very accommodating, and breakfast was delicious. The hotel itself was lovely and well kept. We stayed at Boutique Hotel Villa Katharina this August while vacationing in Germany, and the easy walk to Bamberg’s Old Town was wonderful. I’d highly recommend staying here if you visit Bamberg.
