Hyperion Hotel Berlin

Money was stolen from our room, and the staff didn't seem very interested in finding out what happened or helping us find the thief. Cups and sheets were dirty from the previous guests, too. There are no cameras in the corridors despite past incidents involving stolen items and money. Someone can come in unnoticed from the public garage by elevator or through an extra door directly from the street. Please stay away from this hotel.

We were robbed during our stay: all the money was gone from our room, and our wallets and purse had been emptied. The staff completely ignored us. We later heard this had happened repeatedly at this hotel. Be careful.

I was in Berlin for the marathon and was shocked by the service. Several weeks beforehand, I emailed to request a late checkout. They said yes, the hotel offered it. But at check-in they told me I couldn't have one after all, apparently because of a misunderstanding: the person who replied meant it was only theoretically possible. The way the receptionist delivered this was so insulting and below the standard of any modern hotel that I had to laugh. He barked, “Good DAY TO YOU SIR!” as if I had already taken up too much of his time on a busy marathon weekend. You'd think he was running the marathon, not me. Then he loudly complained to other guests about how busy the hotel was. Trip Advisor has plenty of similar complaints about service lapses.

The area is a good choice if you want a fairly quiet part of town, and there are very good restaurants nearby. Definitely try Pastalina, about 100 metres from the hotel. The common areas were well looked after, reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast staff were amazing. Breakfast was decent but nothing special, though the coffee was great. The breakfast room got crowded in the last hour, so I'd go early. In the room, the air conditioning worked well, but in the evenings there was a strong cannabis smell coming from the vents. Cleaning was good, though the bedding needs replacing: one duvet cover had holes and the pillows were too flat. The shower pipe leaked, and the water temperature kept changing. The bed was comfy apart from those flat pillows. Blackout curtains were good, the minibar was well handled, and the coffee machine was nice. It's a decent hotel, not a great one, and a bit pricey for the quality.
