Pension Freiraum Guesthouse Berlin

The room ran a little hot, but we could open both windows and there was a blower fan. The bed was really comfortable, especially the pillows, and the rooms were quite nice. Coffee and tea were free in the kitchen, and there was even an iPad as an amenity. We really enjoyed staying here, much more than we expected.

The breakfast and the neighborhood were the only parts that matched what I'd hoped for. The area is very nice and well connected, and breakfast lived up to the positive reviews. The apartment itself was a shock after booking based on those reviews. It was a run-down little ground floor place, with scratches and stains on the walls and furniture. One of the two beds was in the kitchen, right beside the bathroom, and that hadn't been mentioned when we booked. The bathroom smelled awful and clearly needed renovation, so we had to keep its door shut. Berlin tap water is known for its quality, but this tasted so bad it was undrinkable. The receptionist seemed put out by having guests, rushed through the explanation, and hurriedly showed us the place.

Kreuzberg is right on the doorstep, near Görlitzer Park, with a Penny, Lidl, and Netto all less than a 10 minute walk away. The location also worked well for going out, two U Bahn stops from Warschauer Straße and Berghain, or three from Kit Kat Club, about a 20 minute walk. Freiraum Hostel is good value for money, even though it isn't luxurious. The staff are relaxed and don't impose weird house rules. It's got plenty going for it, so book on! 🤘

Set inside a renovated historical building, the guesthouse is just steps from where the action is. It was spotless, with a state-of-the-art bathroom. The staff and proprietor were polite and willing to accommodate.
