ACHAT Sternhotel Bonn

The location is the one good thing. The room was cold, and I didn’t like it. The toilet wasn’t clean, and walking along the fifth floor corridor made me think of a hostel. The elevator only goes up to the fourth floor. Even the cups and glasses in the room were plastic, something I haven’t seen in hostels. For me, this doesn’t even rate as a three star hotel, at least on the fifth floor.

The building is a little old, but the room was spacious, clean, and convenient, which made up for that. It’s a great location, about a ten minute walk from the main station and the main attraction. Definitely recommend it.

We stayed three nights, and the downtown location worked really well for exploring Bonn. There’s a restaurant downstairs with a nice terrace on the central square. The food and drinks were good, and breakfast there was good each time. There’s a large underground car park just below the square, but the hotel has no parking deal, so it costs the full EUR 25 a day. The rooms were clean, though the hotel feels dated and worn in places. Noise was the big problem. Thin walls and doors let through the usual hotel sounds: people talking in the hall, a neighbor going into their room, someone rolling a suitcase past. You hear it all as if it’s right beside you. That made the rooms feel well below the standard I expected.

The invoice process is a mess. The receptionist refused to issue one, saying they couldn’t provide an invoice for a booking reservation, even though the booking details explicitly say they should. As a result, I’ll have to pay for my business trip myself. I can’t leave a positive review.
