Mercure Hotel Severinshof Köln City

Good location, with lots of restaurants, food choices, transport options, and a Rewe grocery store nearby. There’s a bus stop right across the street that goes to the Olde downtown area. Still, I wouldn’t stay here again. You get what you pay for. At check-in, the thin blonde employee was curt, and her co-worker, an Indian-looking man, looked disgusted by our dog and gave her several dirty looks. He then told the blonde woman we had a dog, even though I’d noted it in my reservation and called ahead to make sure she wouldn’t be a problem. Staff also never addressed me properly. The housekeeper was nice, but on two separate occasions she and the bar housekeeper opened the room door despite the Do Not Disturb sign. Both times we were inside. It upset and distressed my dog. I booked a balcony room with a queen bed and a sofa that pulled out into another bed. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but many lights didn’t work, and some items were missing. There were only one espresso cup and one bottle of water when there should have been two kinds, among other things. The kitchenette cabinets were locked and the microwave didn’t work, with no explanation. When I asked, the front desk said, “some rooms have kitchens, but we're taking them out”. They also said we had to check out at noon, although my reservation for that room clearly said 16:00.

We had a good stay. A bakery nearby opens really early, which was handy when we were jet-lagged and hungry, and the breakfast buffet had a good selection too. The hotel’s street has plenty of restaurants, with a grocery store close by. Cologne cathedral, the Christmas markets, and the shops are all walkable.

Public transport is only a minute away, and shops and restaurants are just a couple of minutes on foot. Galeria Kaupfhof and the shopping areas are about a 10-minute walk. I stayed eight nights and would warmly recommend the hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were very comfortable and clean, the staff were friendly, the Wi-Fi worked well, and service was good throughout. Daily water in the minibar was included. The gym was okay and the sauna comfortable, though the shared shower area, while clean, could use an update.

The location was amazing, just steps from the Tram (U bahn), with restaurants and shops nearby, and a good view. The cathedral was five minutes away by car. We stayed six nights, from 5th feb 26 to 11th feb 26. Service was good, the staff changed every day, and everyone was nice. The rooms were good and had bathtubs, though they felt a little smaller than the ones at Pullman, where we stayed last year. The gym was there too, and the sauna bath was amazing. I only had a couple of small issues: the omelette maker at the restaurant was rude, and there was a fly on the juice jar. Breakfast was the same all six days, which got a little boring. It would’ve been nice to have at least one different dish each day, and the hotel should keep flies away from the juice jar. Other than that, it was a good stay, and I genuinely recommend it.
