Hotel Lindenhof

The better room was clean, quiet and had a good layout, much more habitable than the first one. That first room felt smaller than a prison cell, and screaming children next door were loud because the walls don't block sound well. I asked to move and was initially told there were no rooms available, but I waited at reception while staff made a call, and they found me another room. The rooms seem quite different despite costing the same. The location was good, some rooms are fine, the price is lower, and the staff were friendly. The lift was broken, so I had to haul luggage up and down many flights of stairs several times during the day. Breakfast was basic: eggs were the only hot item, with cereal, ham, cheese, dessert, bread and pastries. No bacon or sausages, and the machine had coffee but no hot chocolate.

The beds were comfortable and breakfast was good, and the location was good too. I had a nice experience overall, but the staff were quite rude. The lift wasn't working, so we had to carry our bags upstairs ourselves.

The room was nothing like what I’d requested: I asked for a quiet room overlooking the back yard and was promised one, but got a noisy room facing the main street. It also had no third bed, air conditioning, or hair dryer. I’d booked for three by phone, yet at check-in the staff acted as if they didn’t know that and wouldn’t show us the room until I paid in advance. The next day they said they’d “discovered” we were three after counting our toothbrushes, even though that was exactly what I’d booked and registered, and demanded another €40. When I asked for a manager, they said the manager was on holiday. They kept my room key while all my belongings were inside, and only gave it back after I started recording. That evening two men confronted us, spoke aggressively, and threatened to call the police. I also had to insist on getting an invoice before paying anything. From start to finish this felt like deliberate misrepresentation and intimidating, unprofessional treatment. It was a very unpleasant stay, and I’d think twice before choosing this hotel.

The breakfast was the main disappointment: the buffet was limited and the food didn’t seem very fresh. I also thought the hotel was a bit overpriced, especially with that breakfast. Still, for our one-night stay we were satisfied. The room had recently been renovated, the furniture was in good shape, and the bathroom was spotless. The bed linens were fresh, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’d recommend it for a short stay, though I’d look elsewhere if a better breakfast is a priority.
