Friedrichstadt is a hidden gem and a town well worth visiting. The hotel occupies an amazing old building, with modern rooms, a fancy restaurant, and a pleasant terrace. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very friendly.

For the price, I'd expect at least a normal hotel standard, but this place didn't deliver. The room was unbearably hot, like a sauna, and with no air conditioning or even a fan, I couldn't sleep and spent the night sweating. After a three-month heat wave, they should have found some way to cool rooms for paying guests. There was no fridge or kettle, no extra pillow, and no elevator. They'd emptied the bed beside mine, which I've never seen in all my travels around the world. The stairs were very steep, making it hard to carry luggage. The shower cubicle was tiny and slippery, and all they provided was a small coin-shaped soap. The internet kept asking me to log in every hour or so. Towels and sheets weren't changed. My legs are covered in mosquito bites, and I had to sleep in the same bloody sheets again. On day two, there was no shampoo: the empty bottle was still by the sink, along with half of the little soap.

Right in the middle of Friedrichsstadt, this is a very nice hotel, clean and comfortable. The service is top notch, and breakfast is more like brunch.
