Seehotel Hartung

The location is perfect, and breakfast at the hotel was nice. But we thought we’d booked a hotel room and were placed in an old side building instead. The room was small, smelly, and unclean, like a cheap pension, and reaching the spa meant walking along a public street. Take care when booking. It was so overpriced that it may have been the poorest value of all our bookings.

We spent three nights and four days at SeeHotel Hartung, using it as a base for the castles and the surrounding region. Füssen was an eight-minute drive away, and the castles were only a little farther. At check-in we got a guest card for free public transport, which we used often for trips to Füssen and the nearby castles. It made sightseeing easy. The hotel sits directly across from a lake, with a stunning mountain panorama. Several restaurants are nearby, and the hotel restaurant is well worth a visit. Breakfast was especially good, with delicious food and a mountain view. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and although we don’t speak German, everyone spoke good English, so communication was easy. Our room felt like a small apartment, with a well-equipped kitchen, coffee machine, toaster, and all the utensils we needed. It also had a TV, two sofas, one a sofa bed, a little balcony for fresh air, and very comfortable bedding. The bathroom was a bit small but manageable. The spa was excellent, with a hammam and sauna. The sauna looked out at the mountains, and the relaxation area had a beautiful view over the lake and mountains. The spa follows traditional German customs, so nudity is required, but that was fine for us. We didn’t try the indoor or outdoor jacuzzis. The outdoor one was closed because of winter and snow during our stay. It was a scenic, relaxing stay, and we highly recommend SeeHotel Hartung.

Parking right by the entrance made things easy, and the spacious wooden veranda was a lovely place for breakfast or to take in the impressive lake view. Breakfast itself was good, and the staff were welcoming in their traditional clothes. The rooms were clean and pleasant, with comfortable beds. The wellness area looked brand new and felt clean and peaceful. The jacuzzi was huge, easily big enough for eight. The hotel has all the character of a traditional alpine house, and I can’t think of a better hotel in the whole region.

The breakfast terrace was a highlight, with very good food and warm service from the waitress. We also loved the peaceful setting and lake view from our balcony. Our neighbor smoked, so cigarette smoke drifted over now and then. The room was nicely furnished, with hooks and hangers where you need them, and the toilet felt modern. The shower rail wasn't working properly, though that's a small gripe. The lobby vending machine is handy after reception and the restaurant close, but the space would feel more welcoming without it. We'd choose this family-run hotel again for its quiet, lower price, and local hospitality, rather than staying in Füssen.
