Garmischer Hof

The spa was simple but lovely, and we had the whole place to ourselves. There were footbaths, a sauna, steam room, hammocks, lounges and detox water, and it stays open from 2pm to 10pm. We stayed with family in a roomy family room. The bathroom felt a bit old and dated, but the staff were very kind and welcoming. Food was good quality, though the selection was small and it wasn’t amazing. There was still enough to eat, plus fresh bread and a delicious fresh orange juice squeezer. The hotel is in a pretty town with lovely walking trails and nice restaurants nearby.

The mountain view was mesmerizing. We came to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for a ski holiday and stayed six nights, arriving by train. The hotel was an easy five-minute walk from the station, and we got upgraded to a room with an amazing view of the mountains. The staff were kind and friendly. Breakfast was included, but the food was so good that we ate most of our dinners at the hotel too. The sauna was spacious and great for relaxing, and the hotel’s own brewery makes really good beer 😊. There’s a ski bus stop five minutes away, or you can walk to the lifts in 20 minutes. We also liked being able to wander to local shops and restaurants.

We had a wonderful stay here in April 2025. The hotel was welcoming and in a very convenient location. We planned to return in early May 2026, but a family emergency meant we had to cancel. I messaged through Booking.com and was told to submit the official cancellation and refund request through the site. I did that, and the refund was denied almost immediately. It felt misleading to be directed to make a request as if a refund might be considered, only to find out moments later that they had no intention of granting one. We had to cancel anyway, but the way it was handled felt slightly deceptive. The hotel itself is nice, but make sure you can definitely make the trip, since they won’t consider extenuating circumstances.

The dinner was one of the best meals we had in Europe. The lentils and pork belly, salad and soup were phenomenal, and the fresh beer was the best I’ve ever had. We also enjoyed the sauna and the beautiful balcony view, and there was a nice big countertop in the bathroom. Garmisch is absolutely adorable. Breakfast was very good too, with delicious coffee, a great selection of food and excellent service.
