Hotel Atlantic Hamburg, Autograph Collection

The kitchen and service were exquisite. This is a high-end historic hotel with a great view of Alster, the tributary of the Elbe river, and prominent guests often stay here.

I can't understand how this hotel gets five stars and a rating over 9 on Booking. The lobby and restaurant look pleasant, but that's all the positive I can say. Half the bulbs in my room were burned out, and the shower grout was so dirty and moldy that I hesitated to bathe. After I complained, they waived the parking charge as an apology. I won't be fooled by this pseudo-luxury again.

I was very disappointed by the way we were treated and by the misleading lake-view listing. We traveled from the US to Hamburg, and I usually choose lake-view rooms. For September 22nd to 24th, I booked and paid extra for a Lake View Deluxe Room. I called to make sure we'd get what we paid for, and was told they didn't have rooms with a lake view at all. I argued with the night shift manager, who wasn't kind and didn't seem to understand what I was explaining. We still didn't get the lake view. In room 182, part of the building's roof was visible, but there was no view. The website's description and booking picture promoted the Deluxe room as having a lake view, yet that's not what we got. It's a shame to pay extra for a lake view in a 5 star hotel and end up looking at a roof. I'll dispute this misleading deal with my credit card company and ask for a refund.

After long days walking around Hamburg, we liked unwinding in Hotel Atlantic's courtyard. It's a peaceful, elegant place for an evening cocktail, and the team were consistently warm and professional. The breakfast staff deserve a special mention: the service ran like clockwork, with plenty of seating, lots of fresh choices, and an attentive team. The location was an excellent base for our first visit to Hamburg, just a short walk from the train station and convenient for getting around. Our room felt like a cozy home base, and the front desk team made us feel like longtime guests. Their care and responsiveness stood out even while we were planning the stay, before we arrived. Hamburg was a perfect starting point for our trip, and Hotel Atlantic made the stay memorable. We're already dreaming about coming back.
