Hotel Heimat St Pauli

The front desk is open only from 3 to 8, but if you have a reservation there are lock boxes for self check-in. There are just ten rooms, and they sell out quickly because the hotel is in St Pauli, Hamburg’s party center. Loud music carries on through the night, though free earplugs are provided. This isn’t a good choice if you’re sensitive to loud noise or music.

The bed was super comfortable, and the guy at reception was extremely friendly and welcoming. Check-in went as smoothly as it could. The shower holder was broken, though, so I had to hold the showerhead, which was uncomfortable and made it hard to keep the bathroom floor dry. The WiFi didn’t work, but I didn’t need it. Most TV channels didn’t work either. The location is right in the heart of St. Pauli, which is great. Keep in mind it’s the party neighborhood, so it may not suit children or, sadly, women, with so many s*x clubs and prost*tution nearby. I didn’t feel uncomfortable and nobody harassed me, but it’s something to be aware of. I can’t believe I had to censor those words to get my review posted.

My room felt like home, with plenty of space and a really comfortable feel. This is St.Pauli at its liveliest, so if you’re not a night owl, bring earplugs and settle in. Kiezbäcker was recommended for breakfast and had lots of tasty choices. I also liked Mother's Fine coffee, right by the police station on Davidstr., especially if, like me, you need plenty of espresso.

The room was clean and the bed was good, and the location worked well. Street music was loud through the night. Reception is open until 9 pm; if you can’t check in by then, they can arrange another way to collect the key, but you need to let them know in advance.
