Hotel am Rothenbaum

A very simple, cheap kind of B&B, and fine for the price. The room is tiny, but it's a pocket-friendly spot in the heart of the city. You can self check in, so remember that after 6 pm you have to do that yourself. Breakfast is available at reception in the morning, but the menu is very small.

For conferences, the location is hard to beat: near CCH - Congress Center Hamburg, and Dammtor/Hauptbahnhof on Rothenbaumchaussee. The U1 Metro Hallerstrasse is right next door, and the airport is 25 minutes away. Banks, a shopping mall, pharmacies, drug stores, and good restaurants are nearby too. Rotherbaum is an exclusive area with parks, tree-lined alleys, turn of the century buildings, world-famous tennis courts, cafes, and restaurants. I got around everywhere in 5 to 15 minutes by scooter and taxi. This is a great budget hotel for business travelers. The rooms are tiny, but spotless, and mine had a large south-facing balcony. Breakfast was very good and fairly priced in a large, beautifully renovated lounge, though there are no special orders or warm breakfast/English breakfast. The team across reception, breakfast, and housekeeping were all very friendly. There's a 24-hour key drop-off/pick-up box, a big notebook-sized safe in the room, and an honesty bar in the staircase, but no fridge. The elevator is tiny and only goes up half a flight of stairs.

The process was easy and the room was clean. The window was broken, but it was okay.

The rooms are small, but big enough for a city trip. The hotel is close to the city center and the other places you should see when visiting Hamburg. Breakfast was very good and freshly made each day.
