IntercityHotel Hamburg-Barmbek

The rooms on the quiet side are almost completely cut off from outside noise. On the other side you can hear the Hamburg neighborhood, though with the windows closed it’s still barely audible. The hotel is big and comfortable, with lovely staff, some of whom speak Dutch, and all the workers speak English. Rooms are really good, and breakfast is generous and tasty. There’s a big parking lot under the hotel on ‘-2’, and you can enter or leave without a steep uphill stop. The elevators are comfortable, which is saying something because I hate elevators. No issues at all. My parents stay here often, and now I understand why. The U-Bahn and S-Bahn are nearby, just across the street. There’s a bar with drinks and usually a bartender, though that may differ during holidays like Christmas right now. Really good!

The hotel is clean, and the rooms have plenty of space. Parking is a mess: you can’t pay the €18 daily rate, apparently because the lot is privately owned and unaffiliated with the hotel. You have to pay every time you come and go, which is ridiculous for hotel guests. They need to arrange something with each other. The bathroom has sliding barn doors without locks, and there’s a window in the bathroom that looks into the bedroom. That felt weird to me as an American, so keep it in mind if sharing a room.

The rooms are well equipped and maintained, the staff are helpful, and the beds are super comfortable. The location is perfect, right by the station and only 4 stops by S train from the airport. This was our first visit, but definitely not the last. Highly recommend.

The room was a good size and comfortable, with an excellent en suite. It’s in a great spot next to the local transport hub, midway between the airport and city centre. The only downside was that the bar was closed over the weekend, so there was nowhere in the hotel to get a hot drink. I was told to go back out to the station for takeaway coffee.
