Sleephotels

The noise from outside made sleeping almost impossible. Our “Tobias” room was on the first floor facing the street, so we heard loud conversations, music late at night and passing cars. There were also lots of street people hanging around, with noise and confusion in the area. The room felt misleadingly advertised and was almost empty. It had one chair and a coat rack with only two hangers, but no desk or bedside table. I had to put our things on the windowsill, with the rest on the carpeted floor, which didn’t feel hygienic. The TV had no channels programmed and didn’t work. I called several times over our three-night stay, but it was never fixed. On the last night they said they’d replace it, when I was leaving the next morning. Staff kept saying they’d “try to do something,” but nothing happened. Even simple requests for an extra chair or another pillow weren’t met. My worst hotel experience ever.

They took my money but didn’t give me a room, and made every part of check-in difficult. It was all obfuscation and chicanery. They shouldn’t be in business.

My room windows had been left open, and it was very cold. The heaters definitely didn’t warm it enough. They also don’t offer luggage storage. If I had to pay to lock my bags at the station, I don’t know why I paid extra for the hotel too. Even hotels with dorms offer this. I picked it because it was affordable, but I really can’t recommend it. Don’t go or book here.

The hotel was well organized and secure, with named rooms instead of numbers. Self check-in was quick, and checking out was no problem. My room and private bathroom were very clean. I’d be likely to book it again. It was a one-night stay, about a six-minute walk from Hamburg main train station and the International coach station. The nearby street didn’t look pleasant at first if you’re not used to another culture. Steindamm street has lots of Indian, African and Turkish businesses, but everything was absolutely normal and nobody bothered me.
