Both reception staff were friendly and very helpful, and the rooms were clean and a good size. The hotel was good value. My only gripe: there was no kettle in the room. There’s a drinks machine downstairs, but that’s not very convenient when you’ve just got out of bed.

I return every year after having lived in Hechtsheim, and I always stay at the Hotel am Hechenberg. The staff are consistently friendly, and breakfast is a relaxed meal with good food. I recommend staying here.

I come back every year for three nights during Karneval, and Tuesday, 4th March 2025 was the final day of this visit. The staff are always polite and helpful, and you can have a little chat in German or English. They’ve got a sense of humour too. Breakfast is a relaxing time for me, and I’ve always been well looked after. Coffee is already on the table, but I need to ask for tea. That’s never a problem for the ladies working in the kitch. A good place to visit if you want a relaxing holiday in Mainz.

The room was filthy, with mold under the shower and a stinging smell in the toilet. Everything was old, and there was no air-conditioning. The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

At €53 a night for a double, it was very good value. The room and area were quiet, and reception was friendly. It wasn’t spotless, though.
