Courtyard by Marriott Munich City Center

I was charged twice for the room, which made an already awful stay even more stressful. Booking.com had taken the first payment before we arrived. The hotel then took a €50 deposit, followed by another €103 during the night. Reception said it was a system error and promised a refund, but it still hasn’t come through. We only stayed one night. On first entering the room, we found small black hairs all over both beds, as if someone had shaved there. There was hair in the bathroom too, and visible stains on the toilet. We had to ask for new sheets, and when the housekeeper brought a replacement set, he spotted stains on those “clean” sheets too and had to get another set. The hygiene and quality control were unacceptable. It was an awful experience, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The location was very nice, close to the central station and walking distance to the old town. Staff were nice most of the time, but getting help took some effort. We asked for slippers three times and only got them the fourth time, after going to reception and waiting there. We stayed for a weekend and had a bad experience with a €50 charge for “equipment rental.” Two hours after checkout, my husband got an invoice for it. When we asked, they claimed a portable hair dryer was missing, though the only one we saw was fixed to the wall in the toilet. Luckily, our luggage was still stored there and we were in the city, so we walked back to sort it out. The front office lady smirked and tried to tell us there was no hair dryer attached in the restroom, even though we’d seen it. We offered to let them check our luggage and bags, but she said that wasn’t necessary. Then she spoke in German to a colleague in front of us, apparently assuming we didn’t understand since we’d been speaking English, saying we were the guests who took the hairdryer. She said she’d call the manager, but the manager never spoke to us or apologized. In the end, she agreed to refund the money, but it’s still on hold. We only had breakfast once. A fridge with a “vegan” sign was full of normal cheese, which misled us into taking some. We’ve been vegan a long time, so we asked staff about it; they just said it was normal cheese and they kept it cold there. If you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, double-check what’s in there. There are vegan options, but not the “wide range” claimed on the website: fruit, bread, potato chips, jams, a kind of sausage spread, plant-based milk, and Alpro dessert. The bed was uncomfortable, like a bunch of stacked cartoons. The room looked clean at first, but I found what I think was pubic hair around the bath.

The breakfast was included and nice, with plenty of food, and the staff were nice. But for a Marriott Hotel, it was a letdown. We nearly missed the hotel while driving because the sign was hard to see, and the lobby didn’t feel inviting or up to Marriott standards. The location was okay, close to downtown, though the area seemed sketchy and we felt unsafe at times. Unlike other Marriott hotels, they charged us for water bottles instead of providing a couple as a courtesy. The beds were very small, and our room was small too. There were no washcloths, and they were short on towels because they were having problems with the laundry service.

The room was a good size, and the guy at reception was nice. But it was unclean when we arrived: lots of small and large hairs on the sheets and poo splashes on the toilet bowl. At 9:30 pm they sent someone to change the sheets, which took a long time, instead of offering us another room. When I asked to move, the woman at reception said, “But you’re getting new sheets now, so why would you need to change rooms?” The housekeeper was polite and apologetic. He also found dirt on one of the replacement sheets, so had to go get another set.
