Hotel Ambiente

The noise outside was the main drawback: there was construction, and people were screaming until 4 in the morning. Still, the train station and several public transport options are very close, and the old town is just across a boulevard. There are plenty of shops and restaurants around too. Hotel Ambiente is a classic German hotel, with a spacious room and comfortable, if somewhat outdated, furniture. Breakfast was nice, though there was no espresso. I’d totally recommend it.

The street’s character was a little annoying, especially at night, even though the location is central. The room was old-fashioned, clean and fairly large. Check-in was quick, and the staff welcomed us warmly. Breakfast had enough variety, was fresh and reasonably priced. The whole team was very kind, especially the fun woman in the restaurant.

A good budget choice for visitors, with lots of nearby restaurants and easy access to many kinds of transport. The reception is open 24 hours, and the receptionists are very cordial. Rooms are clean and include a safe, bathtub and minibar. They’ll also keep your luggage after checkout if you have a late departure. I didn’t get to try breakfast, which the reviews say is great.

Schiller Bräu is across the street, with delicious beer and a great menu of Bavarian classics. The hotel is clean and easy to find, making it a perfect base for Oktoberfest: about a 10-15 minute walk to the Wiesn and even closer to Hauptbahnhof. The rooms are a decent size and quiet. Street noise could be an issue, but that’s not the hotel’s fault.
