Montree Hotel

The bed smelled clean, but the closet and other areas looked and felt dirty. Much of the furniture was old. This is one of the smallest and dirtiest hotels I’ve stayed in.

If you’re visiting Munich from abroad like me, I’d avoid staying here. The hotel uses actual physical keys, not cards or programmed keys. There were plenty of other basic problems too, including rooms that didn’t feel like hotel rooms and a bed that felt like sleeping on the street. The worst part happened on my last morning. Around 7 AM, as I was heading out for breakfast, the receptionist told me I had to leave my key. I objected, then left after saying I’d be back before 11 to collect my things. A little later, the encounter struck me as suspicious, so I returned and took my luggage with me to breakfast. The receptionist was even angrier and insisted I leave the key. He demanded proof I hadn’t lost it, even after I showed him I had it and explained I’d return before 11, while my room was still booked until checkout. He gave no valid reason for this supposed policy. I even showed him the rental agreement, which said nothing about it, but he just kept repeating himself. I had trains and flights to catch, so I left them the key and moved on. Lesson learned. I won’t stay here again, and recommend you don’t either.

The service and staff were excellent and friendly, and the location was fine. The rooms were up to standard for the price. At this cost, we couldn’t ask for much more. There should be a few changes to keep guests from being disturbed by noise. The property could work well for a short stay, but not for a whole family.

The owners are lovely and accommodating, and the staff were friendly and kind. The location was good, and the amenities decent. Despite the downsides, those positives helped make up for them. The walls are so thin you can hear people whispering, and I couldn’t sleep when people were screeching at 3 AM. There’s no AC, which made staying in summer uncomfortable, and the fridge barely kept things cool.
