ibis Muenchen City West

The breakfast was very good, especially the coffee. There were loads of loud, clumsy, clueless Americans there, though, which isn’t the hotel’s fault. Express checkout was excellent and let me avoid a swarm of Americans crowding the lobby. The room was 16 square metres, more than adequate, with good facilities and free water. The shower pressure could be stronger, and the room felt a little cool. The air con only let me lower the temperature. There was some beer garden noise, but it didn’t bother me too much. The power socket beside the bed and desk, with USB included, was really handy. The app worked perfectly for booking and checking in. The U-bahn station is only a few hundred metres from the hotel, making it easy to get to and from the airport and city. Check-in was quick, efficient, and pleasant, and communication was good.

The rooms are a good size and get cleaned every day. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and the bar stays open around the clock. The hotel is close to the train and very near a HIT supermarket. The buffet breakfast was a bit pricey at €17 per person.

Trams, buses, and trains are all a short walk away, so it was easy to get around Munich. We stayed four nights at ibis München City West, and for the price and location it was okay, but cleanliness and support need work. The room was dusty in places, and there was visible rust in the bathroom. It wasn’t awful, but the cleaning needed more care. Housekeeping wasn’t available outside business hours, so when we needed towels, tissues, or other help late in the day, there was nobody to assist. We spilled water on the bed and asked for fresh sheets. They said housekeeping wasn’t available and moved us to another room instead. They did let us keep the keycard for the original room for a while, which was thoughtful. For the first one or two nights, the room phone rang but nobody at reception answered. My partner went down to the lobby while I called from the room, and there was no ringing there either. We were later told the reception phone system had a problem. Oddly, it seemed to happen only on the weekend; once the weekdays began, it worked fine. Better cleanliness and staff availability would make a big difference.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms modern, and the hotel was great value. There’s a metro stop just outside, only a few stops from Munich Old Town. Breakfast had a great selection, and reception staff were very helpful. Great location.
