Hotel Royal

Breakfast came with the room and was pretty decent, though the coffee machine was a small letdown. For the price and star rating, it was an okay stay, more like an average 3-star place than a 3+.

Housekeeping was a disaster, though the restaurant staff were quite good. The location was excellent, with small restaurants and grocery shops open past 20:00, when most things in Munich are shut. Transport is about 100 metres away. Just keep in mind this is the start of a red zone.

The only real plus was being in the centrum. It was loud at night, and you could hear people talking in every room, so privacy and sleep were pretty much out of reach. The room was bare, with no fridge, slippers, toothbrush, kettle, or even cups. When I asked reception to borrow one for tea, I was told it would cost 5 euros per cup. We had booked 5 rooms, but that didn’t seem to make anyone more accommodating. Most staff were rude and struggled with English. Saman was the one staff member who was kind. There were brown marks all over the floor, no warm shower water, and the broken shower door left me stuck inside in the cold. The lift didn’t reach our floor either, so I had to use the stairs, which was painful with my backache. Honestly, calling this a hotel feels generous, it seemed less than a motel.

Bento at reception waited for me when I was running late. That help may have saved my life. The place is close to the train station and the price isn’t bad. So far, so good, I’d recommend it.
