Scandic München Macherei

We spent Oktoberfest week at the Scandic München hotel and would happily return. The location is in a quiet, safe residential area, with the TRAM stop right outside and downtown about 15-20 min away. There are lots of supermarkets nearby, including an ALDI right next door, which made picking up water and other things easy. The hotel is modern, elegant and pretty, and the staff, including the receptionist, were very kind. We didn't eat there, though the bar and breakfast area looked lovely. Our room was quite small and not very functional, but that seems common in European hotels. The A/C worked well, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom had a roomy shower with strong pressure and hot water. My wife liked the excellent hair dryer. They also supplied an iron, some water on the first night, and instant coffee. I did wish there had been an espresso machine. Housekeeping came during our stay and changed the towels. Five stars.

The breakfast was very good, and the reception team were extremely polite and helpful. Still, after just one night, a few things stood out. There is no hotel parking, which was a real inconvenience. Basic items like disposable slippers weren't in the room, so we had to ask reception for them. The shower glass and door don't seal properly, and water runs across the floor into the toilet area. The decor also felt odd and disconnected, especially the random-looking posters on the walls.

The tram stop is just a two-minute walk from the hotel doors, and the U21 takes you straight to Marienplatz in about 20 minutes. We stayed Thursday-Monday for Munich's Christmas markets and had a perfect visit. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very modern, the staff were helpful and polite, and breakfast had a tasty selection with plenty to choose from. We'd definitely return and recommend it.

The windows were easy to darken and kept the room really quiet, and the beds could be adjusted to suit what I needed. I was there for one night on a business trip and really enjoyed it. The room was clean, stylish and nice, the receptionist was friendly, and breakfast was healthy without being boring. I'd recommend the place to everyone.
