Rocco Forte The Charles Hotel

The Charles Hotel was a beautiful, calm and refined place to stay, and it’s only a few minutes’ walk from Marienplatz, making the city easy to explore. In February, we were lucky to get beautiful snowfall and an amazing view from our room. Service was top notch without feeling stiff. Every staff member we met was kind and helpful, and the concierge got us tickets to the FC Bayern match with no hassle, making the trip more memorable. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and turndown service was consistently well done, so everything felt taken care of when we came back at night. Breakfast was excellent, whether ordering à la carte, having the buffet, or doing both. We had a really great experience.

The spa staff were kind, professional, and genuinely helpful, though I did wonder about the therapist’s massage training. More advanced training would make that part perfect. My room request was another mixed experience. I’d asked for somewhere quiet, but was first given a room facing a busy road. After I asked about my request, staff quickly found another room in the same category on a very quiet street. I was happy with it, but wondered why it hadn’t been offered first. The basement pool pumps and ventilation also ran around the clock. I couldn’t hear them, but felt vibrations through the mattress and woke around 3 a.m. every night. Breakfast had an excellent selection, but eggs, tea, and coffee had to be ordered separately. On day one, the waiter forgot my order, and after 25 minutes I had to remind them. What arrived wasn’t what I’d asked for. The next morning I waited 35 minutes. A woman nearby gave up and left after waiting 25 minutes for coffee. Breakfast service needs work. The shower drain didn’t work properly, so water collected and spilled outside the stall. I tried calling housekeeping, but the phone connected me to the restaurant instead. Guest relations apologized over WhatsApp and said it would be fixed. After cleaning, I was told it had been sorted, but the same thing happened that evening and the phone numbers were still wrong. I had to complain a third time before a man came and fixed it quickly.

After a long flight, we were tired when we arrived, and the staff kindly upgraded us to a suite with a lovely view. Dinner at the in-house restaurant was another highlight, with excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Gulia made us feel at home and turned it into a memorable meal. At checkout, the staff helped load our car and sort out the parking, and even gave us water for the drive. We had a wonderful stay in Dec 2025.

The in-room dining could have been better, but the service more than made up for it. We had a lovely three days at The Charles, with large rooms, a great breakfast, and an amazing team. For me, the location is the best in Munich.
