Familotel Bavaria

We had a great time relaxing here, and the all-inclusive meals and drinks meant we never needed anything else. The hotel is set up for families with children of all ages, from babies through teens, and the childcare felt professional, with different activities each day. Our little ones loved it, which gave us time to take the older kids on more challenging hikes in the lovely Allgäu Mountains. We came without a car, and public transport isn’t great. A small convenience shop nearby would have been useful.

We loved our 10-day family get-together and could easily have stayed two more weeks. The staff were pretty friendly and helpful, and the food and drinks were excellent. The rooms were fine, though the styles felt a bit mismatched. There’s loads to do around the region, and the hotel offers outings and activities like paddle boarding, visits to Neuschwanstein castle and Hohenschwangau castle, e-bike rides, sailing, and forest walks. Most activities are included in the price. Horse riding cost extra (€28!), and it was lame, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The kids were 4, 7, 8, and 10.

I’ve stayed here on my own for New Years and Easter, too, and the valley fireworks at New Years are great. In good weather, hiking up Falkenstein gives you a wonderful valley view. When we came for Christmas with my wife and four children, we had a big room with a loft for the kids. We arrived late after driving from France, but the owner stayed up and sent a meat and cheese tray to our room. The area is amazingly beautiful, and Neuschwanstein Castle is less than a 20-minute drive away. Hotel service was great; breakfast is enough to get through the day, although the daily restaurant menu is so good you’ll want to eat. If it’s winter, plan to ski. Pfronten prices are similar, and I think the cozy spot on the edge of town is worth any extra you might pay. The open fields and views are better here than in the town center, and it’s less than half an hour on foot to the heart of Pfronten near the train station. That walk is well worth it.

We came from Denmark and stopped in Germany, Austria, and Italy, including Rome, Pisa, Florence, Venice, and Milan. This place was the highlight. Friendly, beautiful, clean, everything. Just wow!
