Mercure Hotel Stuttgart Airport Messe

The recent renovations look lovely, and the staff have been great. The restaurant serves decent food, and this is a good-value stay, but I ran into several problems. The air conditioning didn’t work well in my room, and the shower temperature kept changing. One elevator was out of order, while the down button on the other didn’t work properly. Some of the fitness center equipment was broken and in disrepair. Halfway through my stay, my keycard stopped working and I had to make several trips to the front desk to get it fixed.

I’d still come back if I were in the area. The room was great and the bed very comfortable, and it’s just down the street from the train into the city. There’s underground parking, though space is limited, plus helpful reception staff, a sauna, two elevators, an outdoor seating area for friends, food at set times and a small bar. The gym equipment was broken or damaged, and there was no water to drink there even though staff knew it had run out. Breakfast was delicious but didn’t change, so I eventually went out to get my own. After a cleaner scrubbed the toilet, water from the brush cup leaked onto the floor. I thought there was a leak, then told the maid and she cleaned it up. If you don’t want the maids entering, put the sign on your door, but they may still ignore it. Twice, they came in after a light knock while I was there, so call out “No thank you!” if you hear one.

As a tour guide, I was impressed, and so was our group. The hotel was a lovely surprise: the rooms were spacious and comfortable, the place was clean, and the staff were very professional and provided great service. Breakfast was rich and very good. There’s a supermarket and coffee shop about a five-minute walk away. The hotel restaurant serves great food, and Fabio the master will take good care of yous 🥰

I arrived at 1 pm and asked politely whether an early check-in might be possible. At first, the staff member said the room wasn’t ready. I asked if she could check with housekeeping to see if it might be ready soon, but she made no effort and instead said I’d have to pay a $30 early check-in fee because I wasn’t a high-tier member. So the room was available, but I couldn’t check in without paying extra? It felt like a cash grab, and her dismissive attitude made the experience worse. Plenty of other hotels treat guests respectfully regardless of status. I’ll take my business elsewhere next time.
