B&B HOTEL Wuppertal-City

I arrived at 9pm and was told my reservation had been canceled because I was supposed to arrive by 7pm. The hotel was fully booked, so they couldn’t give me a room, and I had to find another hotel. I asked the receptionist to help me find one, which was ridiculous since he didn’t seem to care about my situation. I booked through Booking.com, left my credit card as a guarantee, and the confirmation said payment would happen at the hotel and check-in was available until midnight. It said nothing about a required arrival time or any other policy, and Booking.com still showed the reservation as confirmed. The hotel canceled it based on an unwritten policy they seemed to have made up. I’ve made countless Booking.com reservations and know that isn’t how it works. I called Booking, and they said I was right and this shouldn’t have happened because the property policy didn’t include it. Absolutely insane.

Front desk service was pleasant, but check-in took over 30 minutes and a long queue formed. The poor woman was juggling the desk, phone calls, and requests from guests upstairs. She was very polite and apologetic, though. The location is handy, walking distance to the town center and across from a suspension train station. The room was clean, the beds very comfy, and the small bath worked fine. Towels were changed and beds made daily. Our room faced the street, and there was lots of noise outside on both Friday and Saturday nights. Breakfast was OK with different options, but there was no hot water for tea. It ran a bit longer than expected, and we didn’t realize it cost extra. We were told our room wasn’t on the list after we’d already served ourselves, so there was practically no chance to say no and leave. I’d assume pets are welcome, since I saw at least two different people coming and going with their dogs. It’s a nice place for a night or two.

Loud traffic kept me from sleeping, and in spring 2025 the place was also a construction site. When I complained, I was told I could have moved. Yeah, right, in my PJs or what? No compensation. Outrageous. The toilet seat had pee stains, the surfaces weren’t clean, and the place felt highly unhygienic. The cheap sheets made me sweat. Don’t stay here.

During all ten days, the free ‘breakfast’ never matched its description. There was mouldy bread, no hot water for drinks, no milk, a malfunctioning orange juice machine, and hummus from the day before with a skin on it. The staff were rude on a level I’ve never experienced. I got shouted at for forgetting my room key, and there were many other terrible moments. Even getting them to do anything for you seemed like hard work. I hope the staff see this and treat guests better, since guests pay their wages. I wouldn’t stay there again if you paid me, and I’ll stay somewhere else when I return to Wuppertal.
