Hotel zur Tanne

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the location worked well for me and was easy to get to. The room itself was another story: the heating barely worked, then stopped altogether after 10 p.m., leaving the room so cold that I couldn’t sleep. Hot water was only lukewarm at best and seemed to cut out after 10 p.m., so only cold water was left. There was no soap or shower gel, and no kettle for making coffee or other hot drinks.

The Wi-Fi worked, but that was the only real plus. We booked two rooms and wouldn’t stay here again. The rooms were badly worn. The furniture looked like it belonged at a dump, the carpets were ancient, and things were broken all over: bent blinds, lamps nearly falling off, and curtain rods hanging by a thread. The mattresses sagged like hammocks. There was hair from the previous guests in the tub and shower drain, and all the silicone sealant was moldy. The place needs a complete renovation. We first had to ask around outside the restaurant to find the “hotel” owner. The advert promised parking at the building, but it was a struggle to get even one space for our small car, with no room for the other. He suggested leaving our classic cars on the busy street, saying he didn’t know where else to put them because guests of the Italian restaurant had taken all the spaces. After some discussion, the second classic car was finally allowed to use the owner’s parking space once he’d driven away. The area behind the building feels derelict and abandoned. There’s an Italian restaurant on the ground floor, but it has nothing to do with the rooms.

We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our meal at the new Italian restaurant La Casa Merja. The food, service, and atmosphere were all very pleasant and tasteful. You can tell the chef knows what he’s doing.

I’ve had lunch here with my family several times and have also celebrated birthdays here. I completely disagree with the negative comments in the two reviews. The restaurant is clean, with fresh flowers, and it’s decorated beautifully for Easter and Christmas. The service is friendly and pleasant every time. The menu offers tasty traditional German food and leaves little to be desired. I’d happily recommend the Hotel Restaurant "Zur Tanne." Thanks to the team for all the lovely times we’ve had here.
