Hostal Muro de las Lagrimas

The staff at Hospedaje Muro De Las Lagrimas were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the drinking water in the lobby was easy to access. We also made use of the on-site laundry, about $1 USD per pound. Our air-conditioned room was a welcome break from the heat. The only drawback was the lack of a kitchen, but the nearby restaurants were so cheap that it didn’t affect our stay. We checked out two other places before choosing this hospedaje, and none came close for comfort and charm. The spacious rooms were kept in like-new condition and cleaned daily. Hammocks and palm trees gave the place a resort-like feel, while the balconies looked out over the Galapagos landscape, with waves on one side and mountains and greenery on the other. It’s about a two-minute walk to restaurants and tour guides, and a short stroll to the port and tourist sites. We could see a lagoon with flamingos from our room window, just a short walk away. This was the best accommodation we experienced on our stay, a comfortable oasis on Isabela Island.

We loved Puerto Villamil and Isabella Island, along with Los Túneles, Los Trillizos, and the mangrove beach access on the way to Wall of Tears. We also enjoyed corviche and carne plates from the restaurant under tarps beside the military base entrance in town, and the nearby Gourmet breakfast restaurant with real coffee. Ulise and his wife were gracious hosts. Our new room had hot water and comfortable beds, and the rooftop had cool views of town, the sea, and pink flamingoes. There were great hammocks around the yard and drinking water in the office for refilling containers. Ask Ulise to arrange tours and take you to Los Trillizos for a private look at his cave and organic farm on the way up into the highlands. It was worth every penny and a fun way to explore the island and its depths. Bring long sleeves and pants for the safety harness descent and ascent.

The owner and his family were so kind and helpful, and shout out to the son Axel. Rooms are big and brand new, with a handy fridge and very useful air conditioning. They were cleaned daily and came with bedsheets and towels. There’s no TV, though I didn’t notice until day three since we were out on excursions and too tired to watch at night. There’s a big sink behind the house for rinsing swimsuits or clothes, then you can hang them in the garden. Hammocks in the shade are a nice place to relax in the sea breeze. Muro de Las Lágrimas oa located a minute’s walk by the beach, on a beautiful, rustic island where Puerto Villamil is small and everything is within walking distance.
