Bella Casa Hostel

My room had a private bathroom and clean towels, but several things led me to leave a night early and find somewhere else. The shower knob was broken and had a plastic replacement that barely moved. Water pressure was usually low, with occasional bursts. The sink tap was broken too, running scalding hot even near the cold setting, and leaking over and under the sink. The slippers were worn, dirty, oversized men’s slippers. I’d asked for a balcony room, but never got a reply and wasn’t given one. The noisy floor AC made it hard to sleep, even with earplugs. The windows didn’t block much sound from the busy street below, where cars and people carried on through the night around the outdoor restaurant seating, food, and shisha. They have wooden frames and mostly covered glass, so little light gets in when shut. To get fresh air and daylight, you have to open them fully, which lets flies in. There’s also a broken triangular hole in the window. That might be fine in mild weather, but could let in cold drafts or insects depending on the season. Extra sheets might help in winter, and insect protection in summer. The old building has a strong cat urine smell when you enter. The art deco stairs and walls are beautiful, but show signs of sinking and wear. Be prepared to climb, as the rooms are on the higher floors, with views.

The location near the Egyptian museum was really handy, and the staff were attentive. Rooms are roomy and the air conditioning worked very well. Some rooms have a frigobar, and there's a small shared kitchen with a microwave but no stove. There's no elevator, so it's up on the third floor. They don't have a washing machine, though paid laundry service is available.

The common areas were a nice place to unwind after being out or meet other travelers, and the hostel is close to attractions, restaurants, and public transport. My room was clean and comfortable, with the basics I needed. The staff made a real effort to make me feel at home, and the whole place had a warm, welcoming feel. A cozy, affordable option I'd recommend.

Really clean hostel, and the manager was great and treated us decently. Had a good trip staying there.
