Eileen Hotel

You can walk to just about everything from this central spot, and the room was perfect. I had a great stay in the middle of Cairo and would recommend it. The breakfast felt outdated and could use an update, though, and there was quite a bit of noise at night, mostly from things happening inside the hotel.

The rooms were clean, a normal size, and had what we needed for a reasonable price. Breakfast wasn't very varied, but it covered the basics and they made fresh omelettes. They even let us have breakfast at 3am before our airport departure, and stored our luggage before check-in. We arrived at 12pm to find reception open around the clock. The staff were always friendly and ready to help, and they upgraded us to a better room on the first night for free. It was our first night and first time in Cairo, and we had a very good experience. We'll definitely come back.

The room itself was very narrow and awkward to move around in, and the bathroom was so cramped I couldn't sit normally on the toilet. The shower pressure was too strong and made showering uncomfortable. I was on the fourth floor, where light from the staircase kept shining into the room. I'd asked for somewhere quiet, but shouting in the stairwell woke me up. Avoid room 401 at all costs. They said the price included one bottled water for the whole stay, based on the information they shared. At other hotels I've had unlimited bottled water. I didn't try breakfast, so can't comment on it, though there's a nice balcony for eating it and reception is helpful for late night arrivals. After I gave them 5/10 stars on booking.com, they contacted me on WhatsApp by text and call from three different numbers so far, even after I blocked the number they'd used before.

There are plenty of good cafes and restaurants close by, and transport is convenient, with taxis available all the time. The Eileen Hotel is very well placed in downtown Cairo. The staff made us feel welcome, the rooms were clean, and breakfast was tasty with a good range of choices. WiFi worked well, too. It's a characterful place and very good value. I'd stay here again on my next visit.
