1840 Serviced Apartments

The service made a big difference for us. Cynthia, the office manager, was consistently kind, thoughtful and attentive, always smiling and helping us feel at home after moving from another country to Spain. I can't thank her enough. 1840 was a great apartment for my boyfriend and me during our first month in Barcelona as we got to know the city. The space was modern, comfortable and spotless. From the windows and terrace we had a marvelous panoramic view of Port Vell, Passeig de Colom, the marina and the telegraph, a view you don't often get in town. We were close to Via Layetana, Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and Urquinaona, all walkable or two metro stops away. Historic Barrio Gotico, the coastline and Barcelona's tourist areas were also just a few blocks away. Around the corner, near Museo d'Historia Catalana, there's a cluster of restaurants and bars, and we still have places there we'd like to try.

The staff were extremely helpful whenever I needed anything, and I was very happy in my apartment. It had air conditioning and was close to Barceloneta beach. The building also has a fantastic vegan restaurant, The Green Spot, and plenty of other good places nearby. It's a really good area.

We stayed from December through July, including the lockdowns, and had a great time. The apartment was beautiful and welcoming, the customer service was great, and the location was excellent. We made good use of the rooftop pool and BBQ. My complaints are the bar noise downstairs, which reached the master bedroom, and the awful mosquitoes in the building. We bought a net for over the bed and a zapper racket, and then we were fine. There's also a second bedroom that's very quiet, good for light sleepers.

The apartment was spacious, elegant and minimal, with generous bedrooms and French doors or a Juliette balcony in every room. On the rooftop, the large designer deck had tucked-away spots for conversations, meditation, having friends over for a BBQ, or lounging by the pool. There were complimentary yoga sessions on Friday afternoons. We can't wait to return to Barcelona and 1840 Apartments. Friends from London have since moved in and texted to say they share our enthusiasm and appreciate the recommendation. My partner, our pug and I came to Barcelona in January 2020 after escaping a grey, cold Canadian winter. We spent our first week looking for a six-month place, and once we found the 1840 Apartments, the other short and mid-term rentals we had visited paled in comparison. Port Vell was within walking distance of attractions like the Picasso Museum and the Cathedral, but felt removed from the tourist crowds in El Born's narrow lanes. There were beautiful views over the water, and the promenade outside led to nearby beaches and was fun for people-watching. The area is full of striking architecture and history. With so much good food, from street vendors to Michelin-starred restaurants, we still lost weight and got fit just by walking everywhere. Service was outstanding and fast. The team made comfort, attention to detail and careful cleaning feel like an art. I mentioned liking a particular kind of knife and one arrived within an hour. An extra mattress topper took only minutes to arrange, and Emily volunteered to translate when I needed it. Patricia, Emily, Cynthia, Carlos and the whole team were tireless and attentive. When COVID lockdown forced us to return home, they were incredibly gracious. Thank you.
