Hospes Puerta de Alcalá, a Member of Design Hotels

The hotel has a great location and a lovely view of La Puerta de Alcala, but it's showing its age. The website photos look like they were taken when it was new. My wife and I had several problems, and I don't see myself staying here again. Our Deluxe Suite wasn't ready a little after the 3 p.m. check-in time. After making a couple of changes, they gave us another room that was ready. It was a connecting room, and the lock on our side didn't work. Guest service assured me the other guest's side was locked and they couldn't open the door from there. The shower had very poor water pressure, and the bathroom wasn't very clean. I suspect an old tiled shower floor was covered with a raised floating floor during a remodel, making it hard to clean. There was mold, as shown in the pictures. The in-room phone didn't work, so I went to guest service about the water bottle. It wasn't sealed, but filled on site from what they called a “filter system.” When we opened it, there was pink residue inside the top, like red algae. I asked for fresh water and they brought the same kind of bottle. When I asked for sealed bottles, they said those cost 7 euros each. I agreed, but after showing them what looked like mold or algae residue in their bottle, I thought they shouldn't have charged us.

The service was professional, attentive, and truly welcoming, and the rooms were spacious with elegant, personal design. At Plaza de la Independencia, Hotel Hospes Puerta de Alcalá is right in the heart of Madrid, close to the city's main sights. Its comfortable rooms, luxurious feel, and hospitality make it one of the best choices for an elegant stay in the Spanish capital.

The breakfast was a highlight, with lots of fresh, high-quality options, and the staff were friendly and attentive from check-in through checkout. The hotel is well placed for seeing Madrid, and its historic building has been remodeled beautifully, mixing old-world charm with modern elegance. The design is bright, stylish, and carefully put together. My room was spacious, spotless, and nicely furnished. The bathroom was fantastic, especially the luxurious tub after a day out. It felt like a five-star stay, with history, comfort, and style all in one. I'd highly recommend it for a memorable visit.

The bathroom is private, though separated from the room only by a glass wall and door, so keep that in mind if you're sharing with friends. The toiletries were eco-friendly, and the power worked with the room card as an energy-saving feature. The front desk gave us chocolates, and a bottle of wine and water in the room was a thoughtful welcome. There was espresso and tea too. I do wish soda and water were complimentary, with only alcoholic drinks costing extra, but they charge for all of them. The fridge didn't seem to have a scale, so we could slide the drinks over and keep our own cold. It was our first time in Madrid, and we found this boutique hotel a great place to stay. The staff were very professional and accommodating. We had a booking problem caused by our own mistake with a third party, but they honored everything we'd arranged in advance, which made the stay seamless. They kept their word and were so kind, even giving us tips on things to see and do in the area. The rate seemed reasonable for what we got over two nights.
