I stay in Madrid regularly and often choose hotels or hostels with private bathrooms, since the standard can be decent. This was easily the worst place I’ve stayed in the city. My room was freezing, and with thin walls and single-glazed windows I could hear everything. People were coming and going from the building all night, even on a Tuesday, and some used a PIN while others had an electronic fob. I couldn’t tell whether parts of the building were rented out or what was going on. The neighborhood felt rowdy and a bit rough, so I barely slept. My room was above a kebab shop too, and the smell was awful. I won’t be back.
