Líbere Madrid Chamberí

There are cafes and restaurants all around, and supermarkets just around the corner. We walked to the center instead of using transport, it took only 20-25 minutes. We’d asked customer service after booking for a quieter room because we had children, and got one on the top floor. With the window shut, there was no street noise. The apartment was new, clean, and had everything we needed. We also booked parking, which was very convenient, and the staff were friendly. Everything was great.

The welcome gift was a really nice idea, something more hotels should do. My room was clean, comfortable, and modern, and I liked the warm lighting in the lobby. It was perfect.

Chamberí gave us a lovely neighbourhood feel, with plenty of bars and restaurants, and it’s close to the centre without being caught up in the chaos. Metro and bus stops are nearby, and there’s a Carrefour Express right on the corner, handy for a longer stay or when travelling with kids or toddlers. We had an amazing time at Libere Madrid Chamberí and would definitely choose it again when we return to Madrid. The serviced apartments are attractive and contemporary, with a bright living room and fully equipped kitchen, and some have one or two bedrooms. Check-in and checkout are self-service through the Libere app, which also opens the doors. There’s no staff at the small reception, but you can reach someone by phone or WhatsApp. Free luggage lockers are available if you arrive early or want to spend more time in town, with no extra charge. A couple of small things: the elevators operate independently, and it would be great to have a broom and dustpan in the apartment.

We had to leave the windows open to cool the room, which brought street noise back in and made us uneasy with large windows open on the seventh floor and two little kids inside. The children ended up sleeping in their underwear. The air conditioning didn’t bring the temperature down, and it felt much too hot even at 20°C in autumn, especially for us coming from England. The insulation otherwise worked well, keeping out noise from other rooms and the busy street with the windows shut. The digital system was handy too, with information on your phone and access to all the doors. The room looked light and airy, with soft wooden floors and a lovely Scandinavian style. It was clean, functional, warm, and the main bed was extremely comfortable, genuinely one of the best I’ve slept in. But the sofa bed was terrible, so although the room was advertised for three, only two of us got a proper night’s sleep. We made our own bed on arrival, which gave the place an apartment-like feel. The kitchen had a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and coffee maker. There were four tumblers and four tall glasses, but no mugs, espresso cups, or kettle, so we had to boil water on the stove. There were plenty of towels, and it looked freshly swept and vacuumed, though maybe not very thoroughly mopped. There were only two small 300ml bottles of water for the whole stay, which felt stingy. A small box had crisps, sweets, and earplugs, but again only enough for two despite my booking and paying for three. The coffee setup was just two imitation Nespresso pods, without milk or sugar. The bedroom had a nice big bed but could have used more or larger pillows, as there were only two. I’d forgotten UK-to-EU plug adapters, and the hotel couldn’t lend any. The sockets had no USB ports, which made charging awkward. The “smart” TV didn’t support streaming apps like YouTube or Netflix, and casting from my phone never worked. Travelling solo with two 8-year-olds, that really limited our options for relaxing in the evenings. It’s modern, clean, and comfortable, with great facilities and good soundproofing. But the heat, awful sofa bed, limited coffee supplies, and lack of streaming made it less family-friendly than we’d hoped. I’d recommend it, just probably not to families with young children.
